Invitation: workshop ‘Biophysical Protein Characterization’ (Ljubljana, 2–3 Dec 2026)
Are you a PhD student, postdoc or 2nd year MSc student? Are you eager to learn more about your precious proteins? Yes & Yes? Then you might be a perfect match for this workshop!
The Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, University of Ljubljana, and the Instruct.SI consortium invite you to a two-day hands-on workshop on Biophysical Protein Characterization, taking place on 2–3 December 2026 at UL FKKT, Večna pot 113, Ljubljana, Slovenia, at the Chairs of Biochemistry and Physical Chemistry.
The workshop will introduce methods and their practical applications for studying protein interactions, stability, secondary structure, size and molecular mass. It will cover isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), nanoDSF with dynamic light scattering (DLS), circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy and mass photometry.
Participants will:
- Become familiar with the theoretical background and applications of each method.
- Learn about sample requirements, preparation and measurement procedures.
- Gain practical experience in data analysis and interpretation.
- Recognize common errors and pitfalls and learn how to avoid them.
The workshop is primarily intended for doctoral students, early-career postdoctoral researchers and also second-year master’s students, while researchers at other career stages are also welcome. Participants will have the opportunity to briefly present their research and perform measurements on their own samples, subject to prior agreement with the organizers.
Please register by 1 November 2026 via the online application form at the workshop webpage where more information is available. Due to the hands-on nature of the workshop, participation is limited to 10 attendees. If more applications are received, the organizers will select participants based on the information provided in the application form. Please describe your samples and measurement goals in as much detail as possible when applying.
