Researchers are kindly invited to a two-day hands-on Instruct.SI workshop to eexplore protein interactions, stability, secondary structure, molecular size and mass using isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), nano-differential scanning fluorimetry with dynamic light scattering (nanoDSF+DLS), circular dichroism spectroscopy (CD) and mass photometry (MP).
Participants will:
- Become familiar with the theoretical background and applications of each method.
- Learn about sample requirements, preparation and measurement procedures.
- Gain practical experience in data analysis and interpretation.
- Recognize common errors and pitfalls and learn how to avoid them.
We will use the following equipment during the workshop:
- nanoDSF: NanoTemper Prometheus Panta
- mass photometry: Refeyn TwoMP
- isothermal tittration calorimetry: Malvern PEAQ ITC
- CD spectroscopy: Jasco 1500

Place and time
The workshop will be held from 2nd to 3rd December 2026 at the Chairs of Biochemistry & Physical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, University of Ljubljana, Večna pot 113, Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Preliminary programme
Below is a preliminary workshop programme that is subject to adjustment with regard to number of samples for specific method.
Day 1 (Wednesday, Dec 2):
- 9:00–9:15: Introduction
- 9.15–10.00: Short presentations by participants
- 10:00–11:30: Theoretical background
- 11:30–12:00: Coffee break
- 12:00–13:30: Measurements
- 13:30–14:30: Lunch
- 14:30–16:30: Measurements, data analysis
Day 2 (Wednesday, Dec 3):
- 9:00–11:00: Theoretical background
- 11:00–11:30: Coffee break
- 11:30–13:00: Measurements, data analysis
- 13:00–14:00: Lunch
- 14:00–16:00: Measurements, data analysis & wrap-up
Audience
The workshop is primarily intended for doctoral students, early-career postdoctoral researchers and second-year master’s students interested in biophysical protein characterization. Researchers at other career stages are also welcome.
Applicants will have the opportunity to briefly present their research, bring their own samples, perform the measurements and analyze the data (see below for more info on this).
Registration
Please register by 1st November 2026 via this link.
Applicants are kindly asked to provide as detailed sample information as possible, and describe the goal of their measurements. This will be used to adjust the programme accordingly. Participants who would like to perform hands-on measurements will be contacted by the organising team to discuss the samples and measurements.
Due to hands-on nature of the workshop the maximum number of participants is limited to 10. If we will receive more than 10 applications the selection will be done by the organising team and will be based on the data provided by applicants via application form.
Applicants will be informed on the status of their application after the aplication deadline.
